MY SPECIALTIES

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING

Individual therapy provides an opportunity for a person to freely talk about their thoughts and feelings in a safe and supportive environment. Sometimes therapy can be a difficult and painful process as you begin to confront difficult issues and memories. Change in general is often a struggle as you develop new and unfamiliar thoughts and behaviors. My goal is to help and support you through these changes and I encourage you to share feedback or any concerns you have about the process. The commit and effort you put into the work in therapy will result in the life changes you want.  Concerns that are often addressed are depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, relationships and grief and loss.

Family Counseling

I believe that a family works as an intricate system and sometimes that system is having difficulties working well.  Family counseling provides an opportunity for everyone to talk about thoughts and feelings in a safe and supportive environment. As the therapist I help everyone feel heard, foster change in communication, help the family come up with an agreed upon plan for change and support the family as the changes happen. Some of the concerns that come up in family therapy include: parent/child conflict, communication breakdowns, changes after divorce, coping with abuse, blending a family, and adoptions.

Child and Adolescent Counseling

Therapy with children and adolescents provides an unique and safe environment where a child can explore their thoughts and feelings through talking and/or playing. It allows the child to relieve distress, to understand his/her feelings, learn new ways of coping, develop life skills and to improve their sense of self.

Parent involvement is an essential component of every child's therapy.  In most families I consider the parents a partner in the treatment process. A parent provides the child's developmental history, input related to emotions and behaviors, participates in developing treatment goals and gives feedback about progress and change. Some of the concerns that bring children and adolescents to therapy include: behavior issues, anxiety,

depression/withdrawal, school difficulties, social distress, family distress, executive functioning concerns, emotional disregulation, and grief/loss.

Parenting Support

Parenting can be a difficult and confusing relationship. It is often influenced by how individuals were parented themselves. Parenting support can help parents understand their role and to explore the type of parent they want to be. It is an opportunity to learn new skills, understand child development, and find creative ways to parent on your own or to collaborate better with your co-parent.
